Frederick Loves Beer

Warmer weather is on its way! What better way to cool off as the mercury rises than to unwind at a local brewery? Did you know that Frederick County is home to 14 breweries, including Maryland’s largest, Flying Dog Brewery?  Many of these businesses also use local crops to make their brews.

Maryland is in the midst of a barley and hops agricultural boom, in part due to the abundance of craft breweries popping up in the state, and the greater demand for local crops to become a part of the process. The farm to bottle movement also has brewers using local for fruits to make small specialized batches with fruits such as berries, apples, peaches, and plums. Using these products helps forge strong partnerships among local orchards, farms, and breweries. Luckily for us, we get the benefit of the fruits of their labor!
